What got you into the Dredd Universe?
Any favourite stories/movies?
If anyone would like a synopsis of the comic so far, please see this article mentalfloss.com/article/56737/…
And this synopsis by the wealth of Judge Dredd knowledge, jonbluestone comments.deviantart.com/1/4626…
If anyone is looking for a place to purchase the comics, it's on the official site. Most are available in digital format (cheaper, too!). The 'Complete Case Files' are reprints of the older comics. shop.2000adonline.com/
Now i start with DAZ3D software and i search help to create modell /dolls judge dredd caracters in DAZ3D savefile...
Universe of judge dredd is very good for rôleplaying game.
Nice day to you.
Also liked some other characters in 2000AD, like Stronty Dogs and Nemesis.
I was excitied by the announcement of the first Judge Dredd movie, but was ultimately disappointed, like a lot of long term fans were.
The 2012 Dredd movie was a far, far better take on the Dredd character and I'm still optimistic it will get the sequel it deserves, preferably with karl Urban once again not showing his face in the lead role.
I'm a fan of Bisley art, so I think he also draw me to Dredd character. I have Batman Dredd comic and some other stuff.
I will be doing some Dredd art and I will be posting here.
Thanks and have an awesome day!!!
I don't read them anymore but that Dredd film was absolutely drokking brilliant!
I got into Judge Dredd from stories in 2000 ad, I collected the comic from Issue number one...
I loved "The Apocalypse War" and "The Day the Law Died"
Chopper and of course Judge Death.
I don't read comics because... I don't do much effort to read them. If I grab anything to read it is not comics. I kinda wish I did, but then I see books like the Bible, biography books about military people, Max Lucado books and well, that keeps me away from comics.
What got me into the Dreddverse? A friend of mine years ago - this would have been back in '91 or '92 (I remember because . . . well, as the ten-credit shockers say, we anticipate!) - was very much into comics. I wasn't, but he and I used to meet up every week or so and hang out and we'd lend each other books. He lent me a lot of graphic novels and collected editions - and many of those were Judge Dredd. I came to really like the comics and enjoyed reading pretty much his whole collection!
Inspired by them, I wrote my first fanfic - it was dreadful (no pun intended!); it had an awful Mary-Sue protagonist, a romance between him and Anderson (over whom I had a crazy fan-crush!) and just wasn't very good. It taught me a lot about writing, however (and, to be perfectly honest, wasn't a total disaster - it did, unlike many other fanfics - have a narrative which progressed and ended with a satisfying conclusion!) I named my hero after John Cornelius, a character in a BBC series that ran that summer (this is why I remember the date!) That fanfic is now sadly / gladly lost!
Years and years pass. I read an article on Cracked.com about something or other, and some left-wing hippie type objected to "Dredd 3D" as being unpleasant or something - I can't remember. I Netflixed the movie and thought "Damn, but this is a fine film! Hippies know nothing!" I was inspired to write a short fanfic based on it - "Assessment Over" here thepsifiles.deviantart.com/art…
I then was inspired to create more fanfic - because fanfic, and I like fanfic. The years that have passed have made me a better writer, but I had affection for my older fanfic setting and characters. So, inspired by them, I started to write some fanfic set in the movie universe, creating an interlocking series of stories telling the tale of the nascent Psi-Division. You can find those stories on my gallery and also on FanFiction.net here www.fanfiction.net/community/C…
My favorite stories are the Day The Law died (classic Dredd!) and any of the Anderson / Death stories. City of the Damned is also very highly regarded.
I have much affection for Anderson (crazy-fan-crush, see above) as a character - although Dredd stories are always more about the city rather than the Judges in there.
So, that is my history! I write fanfic, I post it here, I sometimes hack about and make collage images as inspiration etc. If anyone enjoys my fics, please leave a comment and - if anyone is so inspired - I would be flattered and interested to see any art based on or inspired by my work!
Got into the Dreddiverse way back. Somewhere in the late eighties, found this grubby little comic book in a surplus store and the artwork blew me away. Fabry is still an inspiration to me in my professional life
My mum did not like it at all, and I had another reason to like Dredd. Not really obeying the Law of the house, but it was totally worth it.
One of my favourites of all time is the Dredd/Batman crossover "Die Laughing". Smashing artwork, lovely dystopic feel and Dredd (and Fabry of course).
As to characters: Anderson is awesome and of course the Dark Judges
And now I need to make more fan-art, whenever the studio schedule permits it
Oh and the movies are friggin' awesome. While the 2012 kept the gritty tone and "day in the life" style of the comics, I also really enjoyed the 1995 version for its faithful adaptation of the "look" of the comics. The Lawmaster looked bloody amazing (even though it apparently was so wide it couldn't turn >< )
Loved the 2012 movie, it kept to the gritty feel of the comic as I knew it!
I'm very much a novice artist, and I've only done one piece of Dredd related art - ABC warriors piece - but hope to try more in the coming months. Right now though a lot of my time is taken up with submissions for the game company and fiction imprint I co-own. When I'm not busy with that, I'm also tied up with writing for several different publishing companies. So, time for art is - sadly - limited.
A couple of months ago I've seen a nice gif from a scene of Dredd 2012 and I really liked how dystopic and great the architecture looked there. Like these massive mono block living quarters. That got me really into watching the movie itself. Already from the start on it got one of my favourite movies of all time. Man! The music, it had this real nice sci-fi flow, I would say. The character Judge Dredd was really badass and it really enhanced the whole sci fi feel for me. Well, to depict the rest...my english knowledge wouldn't allow me that to do, ahah Dredd FTW
Dredd (2012) is one of my favorite movies and I love the web series Judge Dredd: Superfiend.
Judge Death is my favorite character.
The name's Tina.
Way back in the late 80's my mom got some copies of Judge Dredd and read them to me before bedtime. (Yes, my mother is an amazing and badass person)
Anytime I managed to find a copy of 2000AD I enjoyed the thrillpower. It wasn't until two decades later that I got back into it.
I will always ALWAYS love the 1995 original movie with Stallone, it has a very special and important place in my heart for many reasons.
I do not recall the stories I read in detail, just that they greatly entertained me.
Nemesis the Warlock is eternally on spot #1, Dredd, the ABC Warriors and Judge Death (frankly I love all of 2000AD even if I could find very little of it)
1. I got into Dredd thanks to a crossover comic my grandmother (of all people) bought me at a second hand store. It was Dredd and Batman and it was drawn by Simon Bisley. I knew plenty about Bats, but Dredd and Anderson were featured prominently. There's even a bit where Bats is transported to Mega City. Good book.
2. "Dredd" was an amazing movie, it boiled him down to what makes him badass. I missed the more bizarre/goofy elements present in the comics, but it was still an excellent adaptation. "Dredd vs. Death" was a fun game. I've enjoyed a few of the audio dramas. I have some collections of the older comics. I frequent most of the Dredd tumblrs and reblog artwork.
3. Dredd (dur), Anderson, Hershey, The Dark Judges (yes, all of them), Mean Machine Angel , ABC warriors, etc.
Got into Dredd when I was young and they did the Batman crossover. Huge fan of Judge Death and the Dark Judges.
Im mostly a sketch artist, But planning to do more Dredd themed drawings in the future.
I only watch the 1995 movie and i don't remember too much
I got into Judge Dredd after seeing Nostalgia Critic's Review of the 1995 movie, and he said it was bad, but at the same time it was entertaining. So I saw it, and I actually agreed that it was entertaining to watch! Before the film I only knew about Judge Dredd from the trailers for the newer film.
I like that movie so much that in fact, my series Kiba Noire was originally based off the 1995 film, over time concepts changed, but that's a whole 'nother story. I may consider watching the new movie though...
Not really sure about my favorite character, but I'll go with Joseph Dredd since he is kind of awesome and hardcore.
I have to confess, I'm not a diehard Dreddhead but I am British, so that counts for something right? No idea when I first heard of Dredd, it must've been back in the 80s, I imagine. I remember getting a Rogue Trooper video game around that time.
Favourite characters? Angel takes some beating.
And I'm more than happy to sign the petition, I thought the Urban movie was AWESOME.
In terms of my opinions of the Dredd movies, this how I felt about them: I found the Stallone flick to be a dull uninspired retread of the Demolition Man (even casting the same actors) that I found all around boring. While the 2012 version is in my opinion a far superior; with a more interesting story and paid homage to the character while doing something new with him, to to the point where I consider it to be one of my favourite films of all time, as well as being a great example of how reboots and remakes can work and even be better than the original (even to the point where I signed the petition).
Well, my first encounter was Stallone's Dredd. I watched it when I was a kid. I mean, it was an action movie, of course I watched it. But I haven't seen it in years. Then I encountered the judge again in Dredd. I just love the movie. I watch it over and over again. My thirst has grown though. I will begin reading the comics very soon. They've been out for a long time so I think I have a lot of reading ahead of me
i got into dredd when i first read psycho bikers vs mutants from hell, since i was a big Lobo fan (and still am to this day) l loved dredd as a character.
my favorite judge dredd story is judgement on gotham feauturing batman, such a great book and awesome art by the great Simon Bisley.
my favorite character is mean machine, he is so much fun lol.
Stallones Dredd Adaption was one of the movies which introduced me to science fiction and teached me to love it. I think I dont need to mention how brilliant the Urban movie was Nonetheless my favourite Dredd graphic novels are the less wacky and weird ones, upfront the one Dredd issue everyone in this group propably knows: America.
Im looking forward to see great art and maybe contribute some aswell
I´m reading Judge Dredd tales since the last five years. I like him because is different to the regular American comic books. My favourite stories are America, Cursed Earth saga, Apocalipse War and Origins. My favourites Dredd´s artist are Carlos Ezquerra, Simon Bisley, Mike McMahon and Henry Flint
I´ll post more of my Dredd´s sketches soon.
What got you into the Dredd Universe?
I watched the 1995 Judge Dredd and was fairly interested due to the facts that there were mechas, Stallone was the star, and it's set in dystopian future. Karl Urban's Dredd later further took me in. While not a huge fan of the entire thing, being a fan of dystopian fiction is enough to make me interested.
Any favourite stories/movies?
Never heard anything of Dredd until the 1995 movie. So between Stallone's Judge Dredd and Karl Urban's Dredd, I'll have to pick the second one. Everything in it seems simply badarse.
Judge Dredd and Anderson, of course.
I'm Gerry reporting in from London, Hackney Sector. Dredd 3D blew me away and re ignited my interest in Judge Dredd. I used to read comics as a kid, mainly DC but I liked 2000AD. I met a couple of Judge Costumers at Excel MCM Comic Con in May 2013 and have a photo done with the Judge's patrol at London Film Comic Con in July 2013.
I joined the Judge Dredd Costume Group, The Brit Cit Judges and The UK Judges Forum group. After completion of my Unifrom I patrol Comic Cons with my fellow Judges. I have a few Graphic Novels to read and I buy the Judge Dredd Megazine online. I forward to seeing the Art and other contributions to this Fantastic Group.
It's gone from strength to strength. Sure there have been a few blips along the way (But say what you want about the Dredd movie with Stallone, the initial fly-over of Mega City 1 was fantastic, Mean Machine Angel was brilliant and Hammerstein was superb!)
Still a fan. Probably got the impression from my nickname here that one particular villain was a fave!
Awesome work in this group, happy to be a member! Hey, I even live in the place the comic's made so I've gotta be slightly obsessed, right?
2: My favorite story would be the epic "Nightshift" (don't know what it's official englih title is) -storyline, which depicts one stormy night in Mega-City One.
3:For some reason, I can really relate to Kenny who? But favorite has to be Judge Death.
The second film, mostly for character development and graphics.
Judge Dredd is my favourite character so far and Dredd 2012 is one of my favourite movies :3
I got into the the Dredd universe a couple years ago because I was really into Karl Urban and the movie came out. I was real into the movie so I decided to look more into it. I have seen the old movie with Sylvester Stallone, wasn't too into it. I own 1 Dredd comic from... 92' I believe.
I guess you could say the 2012 movie is my favorite when it comes to Dredd. I really liked how realistic it all seemed.
Of course my favorite character is Judge Dredd cause he's so badass! I really liked Anderson in the movie
second film, by far. This is the third time my response was deleted so bleh. Inquire later.
Anderson, by far. She was more human than most Judges, even though she quit the Judge service in the movie. Sad face.
Reading the comics and seeing the first Judge Dredd with Sylvester Stallone in 1995.
Too many to recall.
I am the law.
favorite movies are DREDD an Judge Minty (fan film)
characters Dredd / Anderson
The only cool thing to come out of that movie was Mean Machine; that design looked awesome!
I can't remember when I learned about the comics, but I do remember looking for them when I learned about the reboot movie. I picked up "Origins" to get started and was blown away at how good the book was; how complex the characters were; how much history was put in for first time readers! I was instantly hooked! I recently got vol. 1 of the Case Files and am enjoying seeing how much the book changed over the years.
Unfortunately, I decided to wait till the newer movie came out on DVD to see it because I can't stand 3d films...still kicking myself to this day over that decision. This movie was made by fans of the original source material and it shows! The film is dark and gritty, the story is simple yet brilliant, the effects and slowmo shots are brilliantly well done, and the cast is beyond amazing, with Karl Urban really understanding the character of Dredd.
Judge Dredd is one of my favorite characters and I can't wait to find and read more of his amazing stories and check out more art from this group!
